Skin Cancer, Causes, Symptoms and Prevention
The skin, the skin is the outermost part of the body, the skin is certainly no fine hairs. Since the skin is the outermost part of the body, of course, if there is something strange for sure we can immediately find out. It would be different if the inside of the body when experiencing a problem we can not know immediately if there is a problem. The problem here of course relates to a common disease or severe illnesses such as cancer. The skin of our body does have a function that is so valuable. Among the functions of the skin is to protect the body from heat, light, infection, and injury. The skin also serves to store water, fat, and vitamin D (Source: National Cancer Institute PDQ Statement). Then, what if our skin is a multi function it cancerous? (Commonly known as skin cancer). Skin cancer is one form of skin diseases such as cancer cells that grows on the outer layer of the skin. That's why skin cancer is easily detected because it is easily checked by a doctor.
In general, there are three types of skin cancer are:
Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC) (BCC is a type of skin cancer that is most common, basal cells under the outer skin layer.
Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC) Skin cancer is also the most common is the SCC, which is commonly found in cell squamus. SCC is similar to BCC because they often appear in areas directly exposed to the UV rays such as the skin, scalp, neck, hands, arms, and legs.
Melanoma Melanoma including skin cancer is rare, but it is the most dangerous. Melanoma appears at the bottom of the epidermis
Causes of skin cancer
Among the factors that trigger the appearance of skin cancer is sun and ultraviolet rays. Both are harmful rays. And that damage which can progress to cancer. In addition, other factors such as heredity / genetic and living environment may have contributed to the emergence of this disease are pretty dangerous.
Two things affect skin damage from the sun's rays are too many amount of light received by the skin over the years, and often expose to sunlight. It can cause burning of the skin so that there was skin cancer. Generally, people receive 80% exposure to the sun at the age of 18 years of life. Therefore it is recommended to protect children from the sun from an early age. Skin cancer develops very slowly. Securities burning of the skin by sunlight that we received this week took over 20 years to become skin cancer.
Symptoms of skin cancer
Skin cancer usually grows in the epidermis (the outermost layer of skin) so that skin cancer is cancer that first stage of the most easily detected. This type of cancer is more common in whites than colored.
In general, skin cancer were divided into two groups: non-melanotic and melanotic (melanoma). Non-divided into basalioma melanotic (basal cell carcinoma) and squamous cell carcinoma. Basalioma most frequent but slow growth.
These tumors usually arise in the skin of the face (nose, eyelids, lips and forehead skin). Its growth starts with small nodules with red shiny gray color, sometimes blackish in color because of the pigment. This type of cancer rarely metastasize.
While squamous cell carcinomas can grow anywhere. But more signage on the cheek, the ear, back, arms and legs. This type of cancer is growing progressive but slow, invade nearby tissues and can metastasize. Its growth started from a shape like a wart in groups, then shaped irregular, bumpy and bleed easily.
Melanoma type of skin cancer is the most malignant tumor on the skin melanocytes derived from the skin cells that produce the pigment melanin. It usually occurs in the neck, legs, and back. Symptoms of melanoma growth can be seen from the changes in moles that enlarges rapidly, itch, become inflamed, bleeding, as well as changes in color and texture.
